Do You Still Have Those Share Buttons On Your E-Commerce Product Pages?

Well, if your answer is yes, then I strongly advise you to remove them immediately. Learn why and what to do instead.

Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snapchat, TikTok. I know your customers probably hang out at one or more of these social networks, but it doesn’t mean that you should give them sharing buttons on your product details pages. Why?

Many e-commerce sites still show those little icons hoping that they will encourage people to promote their products around the web. Unfortunately, they’re almost certainly a waste of time.

The truth is: no one clicks them.

According to a study, only 0.2% of people do. That’s insignificant compared to the damage that this snippet of code can cause. Those buttons come with lots of extra stuff that slows your page speed down.

If you think that page speed seems like a strange thing to worry about, think twice.

The speed of your site affects every metric you care about.

With the rise of paid social media ‘influencers’, modern users no longer want to go broadcasting for brands without getting something in return.

However, more people will be willing to share in private with a friend or family member, especially if the offer is worth it. So you can consider adding an option for your user to share your product page links through email or an instant messaging service like WhatsApp and Messenger. They are likely to get you more traffic than you’ve ever expected.
